Hello everyone, today I’d like to introduce a music style that I absolutely love to listen to while studying: Chillhop.
Chillhop is a subgenre of hip hop music, also known as lo-fi hip-hop, characterized by slow-paced, atmospheric drum beats, and arrangements with jazz or gentle melodies. Its overall style is relaxed and calm, often incorporating elements like vinyl crackle sounds. It’s commonly used as background music for studying, working, or relaxation. The term can also specifically refer to Chillhop Music, a record label and online community that has played an important role in popularizing this style.

What’s interesting is their music features several cute cartoon animal mascots. The main character is a raccoon wearing a brown hoodie and headphones, and there’s also a frequently appearing white polar bear wearing blue clothes.
For each of the Four Seasons (spring, summer, autumn, winter), they release a mixtape album containing about a dozen songs as part of their Essentials series. They also regularly release themed albums about specific topics.
Most Chillhop music features lofi-hiphop samples with strong drum beats, but the melodies are pleasant, peaceful, and gentle.
They also have dedicated artists who create beautiful illustrated album covers with a unique, cartoon style.
When I study, I listen to this instrumental music because it doesn’t distract me at all, but compared to white noise, it has pleasant melodies. That’s why I love it so much. If you also enjoy lofi low-noise + rhythmic + piano-style music, you’ll fall in love with it.
